LOWER DANUBE. Imitations of Thasos. Late 2nd-1st century BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 35 mm, 16.09 g). Celticized head of Dionysos to right, wearing wreath of ivy and fruit. Rev. Celticized Herakles standing front, head to right, holding club in his right hand and lion skin in his left; legend degraded to dots. Dembski 1530-1 var. Flesche 761 var. Lanz 992-3 var. Lukanc pl. 156, 1783. OTA Class 5. Darkly toned and heavily stylized. The flan somewhat bent and with three countermarks on the reverse, otherwise, very fine.
